Description
This piece was written after a visit to the village Eyam in Derbyshire. When the great plague came to Eyam in 1665, the residents voluntarily quarantined themselves to check the spread of the disease. Close contact between families was discouraged, the church was closed and services were held in the open at Cucklett Delf. To this day Plague Sunday (usually the last Sunday in August) is celebrated with a procession and service in the Delf.
